Descriptif

Uganda Vegan Society (UVS) is a grassroots non-profit organisation founded in 2019 and legally registered in 2021, dedicated to promoting veganism, compassionate living, and sustainable lifestyles across Uganda, while encouraging choices that reduce animal exploitation and support healthier, more sustainable communities. (ugandavegansociety.org)Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, UVS strengthens local food systems, builds capacity for plant-based diets, and empowers individuals and organizations to make compassionate, healthy, and sustainable choices.

UVS leads several flagship initiatives:

  • Vegan School Lunch Program: Providing affordable, nutritious plant-based meals to schoolchildren, while teaching about animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and healthy eating habits.
  • Free the Hen Campaign: Advocating for cage-free egg production and humane treatment of hens through farm support, policy engagement, and public outreach.
  • National Dietary Guidelines Initiative: Collaborating with the Ministry of Health to create food-based dietary guidelines that include nutrient-rich plant foods.
  • Fish Welfare & Aquaculture Research: Studying the impact of fish farming on animal well-being in Uganda’s Lake Victoria region.
  • Plant-Based Nutrition Advocacy: Promoting plant-based diets as a sustainable solution to malnutrition, non-communicable diseases, and food insecurity.
