The Media Initiative for Women in Zambia (MIWOZ) is a non-profit, women-led organization dedicated to advancing the rights, voices and visibility of women and girls especially those from marginalised communities through media. Founded on the belief that media is a powerful catalyst for social change, MIWOZ works to create an inclusive media landscape where women and girls can freely express themselves, influence public discourse, and participate meaningfully in democratic and development processes.
MIWOZ envisions “A just media for women and girls” one where gender equality, representation and dignity are central to media practice and communication. The organization empowers women and girls and marginalised groups with knowledge, skills and platforms to tell their stories, challenge harmful norms and advocate for their rights. Through media training, mentorship, storytelling, research, campaigns and advocacy, MIWOZ strengthens their ability to use media as a tool for communication, activism, leadership and social transformation. At the policy level, MIWOZ engages with government institutions, media regulators, civil society, traditional leadership and industry stakeholders to advocate for laws, policies and practices that promote gender-responsive media and safeguard women’s access to information and participation in governance.
